Mr. Jamen P. O'Reilly LER No.82-030 Page Two November 24, 1982 DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF EVENT 10n October 28, 1982, with t's Plant in Mode 2, a Service Water Booster Pump discharge check valve, XVC-3135B. was found to' be stuck closed during the performance of Surveillance Test Procedure (STP) 123.003. A Maintenance Work Request was issued for investigation and repair of the valve. Upon a Safety Injection signal, the Service Water Booster Pump actuates and discharges through the check valve to Reactor Building Cooling Units. The Plant is equipped with two (2) redundant Service Water trains. This system is required to be operable per Technical Specification 3.6.2.3.

PROBABLE CONSEQUENCES There are no adverse consequences because the redundant train of Service Water and Reactor Building Cooling ~ Units was operable.

CAUSE(S) 0F THE OCCURRENCE The Service Water Booster Pump discharge check valve was stuck closed, which caused this event.

IMMEDIATE CORRECTIVE ACTIONS TAKEN The check valve was disassembled and lubricated. It'was then reassembled and functioned properly. The applicable Surveillance Test Procedure was performed satisfactorily, and the system was declared operable on October 29, 1982.

ACTION TAKEN TO PREVENT RECURRENCE The incident appears to be an isolated incident; therefore, the licensee presently plans no further action for this event other than the normally required surveillance testing.
