SUPPLEMENTAL INFORMATION FOR REQUEST FOR AMENDMENT

  • CONTAINMENT AIRLOCKS, SALEM GENERATING STATION UNIT NOS. 1 & 2 DOCKET NOS. 50-272 AND 50-311 In a letter dated August 12, 1998 (our Ref: LR-N980350), Public Service Electric & Gas Company (PSE&G) submitted a request to revise the Action requirements and Bases for the Salem Unit 1 and 2 Technical Specifications (TS) for Containment Air Locks.

As a result of NRG review of this Request For Amendment, the NRG verbally requested PSE&G to clarify the proposed Action requirements. The requested clarification consisted of the following:

1. Moved the four amplifying notes from the end of the Action requirement section to the beginning of the Action requirement section. Jtoo)
2. Added an additional amplifying note which reads, "(5) Enter applicable Conditions and required Actions of LCO 3.6.1, "Primary Containment", when air lock leakage results in exceeding the overall containment leakage rate."
3. Clarified Action condition a. by changing it to read, "One or more containment air locks with one containment air lock door inoperable".
4. Clarified Action c.1 by changing it to read, "Immediately initiate action to evaluate overall containment leakage per LCO 3.6.1".

In addition, the proposed TS Bases were modified as necessary to support the above changes.

Attached you will find proposed Technical Specification Action requirements (Insert 1)

. and proposed TS Bases (Insert 2) that incorporate the Staff's comments.

This submittal does not alter the original conclusion that the proposed changes do not involve a significant hazards consideration.
