REQUEST FOR ADDITIONAL INFORMATION RELATED TO GENERIC LETTER 96-06 RESPONSE FOR SALEM GENERATING STATION UNITS NOS.1AND2 FACILITY OPERATING LICENSES DPR-70 AND DPR-75 DOCKET NOS. 50-272 AND 50-311 EXTENSION OF RESPONSE DUE DATE (TAC NOS M96860 AND M96861)

REF: 1. NRC Request for Additional Information (RAI) Related to Generic Letter 96-06 Response for Salem Generating Station Units Nos. 1 and 2 Dated July 1, 1998. I

2. Telephone Conversation NRR Licensing Project Manager - Salem and PSE&G Manager of Salem Operational Licensing. July 27, 1998.

NRC's request for additional information (Reference 1) asked that the information be provided within 60 days of receipt of the request. Extension of this due date was discussed with the Salem NRR Project Manager on July 27, 1998 (Reference 2). The discussion noted that the personnel responsible for the technical response were involved in other high priority activities including support of a scheduled mid-cycle outage. As a result of that conversation, it was agreed that the response to the RAI would be provided within 90 days of receipt of the request. This letter documents that agreement.

If you have any questions, please contact Courtney Smyth at (609) 339 5298.

Sincerely,
