Control Room Emergency Air Conditioning System Failed Damper CONDITIONS PRIOR TO OCCURRENCE:

Mode 1 -

Rx Power 100% - Unit Load 1140 MW DESCRIPTION OF OCCURRENCE:

During normal operation on January 19, 1981, while performing a daily surveillance test on Control Room Emergency Air Conditioning System isolation dampers, damper 1CAA3 failed to close during the test and was declared inoperable.

Action Statement 3.7.6.1.b was entered at 0810 hours0.00938 days <br />0.225 hours <br />0.00134 weeks <br />3.08205e-4 months <br />.

This occurrence constituted operation in a degraded mode IAW Technical Specification 6.9.1.9.b.

DESIGNATION OF APPARENT CAUSE OF OCCURRENCE:

Ice had formed on the louvers of the damper preventing their closing.

ANALYSIS OF OCCURRENCE:

The ice formation was the result of unusually cold ambient temperatures.

The damper suffered no damage.

CORRECTIVE ACTION

When maintenance personnel arrived at the damper location, most of the ice had melted.

The damper was tested satisfactorily and declared operable.
