Dear Alan:

Seventeen loggerhead turtles, sixteen green turtles and one Kemp's ridley turtle were removed from the St. Lucie Plant intake canal during the October-December quarter of 1987. One of the loggerheads was emaciated and lethargic when captured and was therefore transferred to a tank at the House of Refuge Museum. This turtle died the day after it was captured (see footnote for turtle captured on ll/5/87).

A juvenile green turtle, captured on,l2/14/87, had papillomas at the bases of all flippers and on the eyes. The papillomas did not appear to hinder movement of the limbs or to obstruct the tur-tle's vision. Since the turtle was active and appeared to be of normal weight, it was released.

Measurements for 'all animals are attached. All of the live turtles were released into the ocean off Hutchinson Island. No turtles were reported from other plants.

Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions concerning the enclosed data.

Sincerely, R. Erik Martin Senior Scientist Enclosure cc: J.R. Wilcox (FPL)
