ARKANSAS NUCLEAR ONE, UNIT 1 -TRANSMITTAL OF DRAFT SAFETY ASSESSMENT FOR PROGRAM PLAN FOR AGING MANAGEMENT FOR REACTOR VESSEL INTERNALS (CAC NO. MF4201)
Dear Sir or Madam:
By letter dated May 20, 2014, as supplemented by letters dated February 10, September 28, and December 30, 2015; and May 24, 2016, Entergy Operations, Inc. (Entergy or the licensee),
submitted an aging management program (AMP) for Arkansas Nuclear One, Unit 1 (AN0-1) reactor vessel internals (RVI). The AN0-1 RVI AMP was submitted to fulfill a commitment that originated from license renewal activities, the provisions of which are described in the AN0-1 Updated Final Safety Analysis Report, Section 16.1.5, "Reactor Vessel Internals Aging Management."
Enclosed is the draft Safety Assessment (SA) that the Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) staff has prepared for the submittal. The draft SA is being withheld from public disclosure at this time because it contains proprietary information pursuant to Title 10 of the Code of Federal Regulations, Part 2, Section 2.390. Proprietary information is identified by text enclosed within double brackets as shown here (( )).
The NRC staff requests that Entergy provide comments regarding the proprietary content in the draft SA by 10 working days from the date of this letter. The response timeframe was discussed with Mr. Robert Clark, of your staff, on January 10, 2017. If circumstances result in the need to revise your response date, or if you have any questions, please contact me at (301) 415-4037.
Since the NRC review is not yet complete, this letter and the enclosure do not convey or represent an NRC staff position regarding the licensee's request. Should Entergy's proposed RVI AMP be approved, the NRC staff will prepare a redacted, publicly available, nonproprietary version of the SA.
The Enclosure to this letter contains Proprietary Information. When separated from the Enclosure, this transmittal document is DECONTROLLED.
