Update on SACE 2.206 Petition regarding St. Lucie Unit 2 Steam Generator Replacement Ms. Diane Curran Harmon Curran Spielberg & Eisenberg LLP Counsel for SACE

Dear Ms. Curran,

This in reference to the petition you submitted on behalf of the Southern Alliance for Clean Energy (SACE) on March 10, 2014, regarding St. Lucie plant, Unit 2 steam generators replacement. You initially filed the petition as a request for a hearing. However, the Commission, by a Memorandum and Order (CLI-14-11) dated December 19, 2014, referred your request to the Executive Director for Operations for disposition under Title 10 of the Code of Federal Regulations (10 CFR) Section 2.206. On September 28, 2015, the NRC staff issued an acknowledgment letter to you partially accepting the petition for review under 10 CFR 2.206.

On October 5, 2015, I sent you a copy of September 28, 2015 acknowledgment letter. Thus it has been 60 days since we have last been in contact and Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) Management Directive (MD) 8.11, which governs the 10 CFR 2.206 Petitions, requires that the Petition Manager contact the petitioner(s), every 60 days regarding the status of the Petition.

The NRC staff review of the accepted portion of the petition is ongoing. The NRC staff is currently reviewing the licensees 50.59 evaluation of the steam generator replacements with respect to a change in a methodology as described in the Updated Final Safety Evaluation Report.

Per MD 8.11, I will notify you every 60 days of the status of the petition, or more frequently if a significant action occurs.

Thanks, Dennis Galvin Project Manager NRC/ADRO/NRR/DORL 301-415-6256 Dennis.Galvin@NRC.GOV 1
