UNITED STATES NUCLEAR REGULATORY COMMISSION WASHINGTON, D.C. 20555-0001 May 5, 2014 Mr. Michael P. Gallagher Vice President, License Renewal Projects Exelon Generation Company, LLC 200 Exelon Way Kennett Square, PA 19348

SUBJECT:

SCHEDULE REVISION FOR THE ENVIRONMENTAL REVIEW OF THE BYRON STATION AND BRAIDWOOD STATION LICENSE RENEWAL APPLICATION-ENVIRONMENTAL REVIEW SCHEDULE (TAC NOS MF1790, MF1791, MF1792, AND MF1793)

Dear Mr. Gallagher:

By letter, dated May 29, 2013, Exelon Generation Company, LLC (Exelon), submitted an application pursuant to Title 10 of the Code of Federal Regulations (CFR) Part 54, to renew the operating licenses for Byron Station (Byron) and Braidwood Station (Braidwood), for review by the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) staff. The staff is reviewing the information contained in the license renewal application and has determined that a revised environmental schedule is needed, in order to support the Waste Confidence update.

The Waste Confidence update is a high priority agency level activity that is integral to NRC's licensing function and necessitates the commitment of all necessary resources to its completion to ensure that commitments and expectations are being met. This requirement has resulted in the temporary reassignment of resources from license renewal environmental reviews. As a result, the environmental review schedules for Byron and Braidwood have been impacted and the schedules revised accordingly. Specifically, the schedules for Byron and Braidwood environmental reviews have been delayed by two and three months, respectfully. The Byron draft Supplemental Environmental Impact Statement (SEIS) is now scheduled to be issued in October 2014, with the final SEIS to be issued July 2015. The Braidwood draft SEIS is now scheduled to be issued in January 2015, with the final SEIS to be issued September 2015.

NRC will continue to assess the resource and schedules associated with the Byron and Braidwood environmental reviews, and make adjustments as feasible or necessary.

The NRC will continue to follow established review procedures and the enclosed environmental review schedule to complete the reviews required by 10 CFR Part 51. If you have any questions on this revised schedule, please contact the NRC's Environmental Project Manager for Byron, Ms. Lois James, at 301-415-3306 or by e-mail at lois.james@nrc.gov or NRC's Environmental Project Manager for Braidwood, Mr. Tam Tran, at 301-415-3617 or by e-mail at tam.tran@nrc.gov.

Sincerely, l'bl>l(' c\\ki, Director Divi n of License Renewal Office of Nuclear Reactor Regulation Docket Nos. 50-454, 50-455; 50-456, and 50-457
