20555 Gentlemen:

Subject:

Docket No. 50-206 Environmental Qualification of Electrical Equipment San Onofre Nuclear Generating Station Unit 1 By letter dated March 10, 1982, we provided you with additional information regarding our beta radiation assessment.

The letter indicated that beta radiation was only included in the assessment for exposed cable indicating that other equipment is usually contained in metal enclosures.

Subsequently, discussions with members of the NRC staff indicated that it was not clear whether all other equipment had metal enclosures or not.

Based on correspondence with our environmental qualification consultant, the only equipment inside containment which does not have metal enclosures is exposed cables. Accordingly, beta radiation was only included in the qualification evaluation of exposed cables.

If you have any questions regarding this information, please let me know.
