Re: Oyster Creek SER question Dolley.

I am attempting to respond to your write-up on behalf of Donnie Ashley:

The five open items specified in the SER are: (1) the appropriate number of locations on the drywell for periodic ultrasonic testing, or UT, measurement of the drywell's thickness; (2) the possibility of corrosion of drywell liner plates embedded in concrete between the containment floor and foundation; (3) the appropriateness of certain technical assumptions in AmerGen's analysis of the potential for "buckling,n of the drywell shell; (4) the appropriate extent of inspections of epoxy-coated drywell surfaces; and (5) the use of an ASME Code provision to simulate the behavior in thinned areas. The staff has requested additional information for items (1), (3), and (5). Items (2) and (4) are being evaluated by the staff.

Donnie, Is this an accurate, ifadmittedly very brief, summary of the five open issues in the Oyster Creek SER?

The five open items specified in the SER are: the appropriate number of locations on the drywell for periodic ultrasonic testing, or UT, measurement of the drywell's thickness; the possibility of corrosion of drywell liner plates embedded in concrete between the containment floor and foundation; the appropriateness of certain technical assumptions in AmerGen's analysis of the potential for "buckling," or collapse, of the drywell shell; factors considered in establishing the minimum required drywell thickness; and the appropriate extent of inspections of epoxy-coated drywell surfaces. The staff has requested additional information on each of these open items.

Thanks for your help. We go to press at noon Friday.
