Duke Energy Corporation Oconee Nuclear Station, Units 1, 2, & 3, Docket Nos. 50-269, 50-270, 50-287 McGuire Nuclear Station, Units 1 & 2, Docket Nos. 50-369, 50-370 Response to NRC Generic Letter 2006-01: Steam Generator Tube Integrity and Associated Technical Specifications On January 20, 2006, the NRC issued Generic Letter (GL) 2006-01 concerning steam generator (SG) tube integrity.

The NRC issued the Gl to request that addresses either submit a description of the program for ensuring SG tube integrity for the interval between inspections, or adopt alternative Technical Specifications (TS) requirements for ensuring SG tube integrity.

This GL requests a response in either of two options. Option 1: Within 30 days, confirm submittal of a request to modify the SG porlion of TS that is consistent with TSTF-449, Revision 4, or provide a regulatory commitment detailing plans and schedule for submitting such a request. If the regulatory commitment will not be submitted by May 31, 2006, provide the information requested in Option 2 within 60 days of changing the commitment.

Option 2: Within 60 days, provide a description of the actions being taken or that will be taken to ensure tube integrity is being maintained (i.e., provide a detailed description of your tube integrity program).Pursuant to 10 CFR 50.54(f), Duke Energy Corporation (Duke) is providing the following regulatory commitment in response to Option 1 of this GL. Duke will submit a license amendment request (LAR) for Oconee Nuclear Station Units 1, 2, and 3 and McGuire Nuclear Station, Units 1 and 2, related to SG tube integrity and consistent with the NRC-approved Revision 4 to TSTF-449, "Steam Generator Tube Integrity," on or before May 31, 2006.The availability of this TS improvement was announced in the Federal Register on May 6, 2005, (70FR24126), as part of the Consolidated Line Item Improvement Process (CLIIP).If you have any questions concerning this correspondence, please contact L.
