OUTAGE START DATE CHANGE RELATED TO NUCLEAR REGULATORY COMMISSION (NRC)

GENERIC LETTER (GL) 2004-02, POTENTIAL IMPACT OF DEBRIS BLOCKAGE ON EMERGENCY RECIRCULATION DURING DESIGN BASIS ACCIDENTS AT PRESSURIZED-WATER REACTORS (PWR), TAC NOS. MC4717, MC4718

Reference:

TVA letter to NRC dated September 1, 2005, "Sequoyah Nuclear Plant (SQN) Units 1 and 2 -

Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) Generic Letter (GL) 2004-02, Potential Impact of Debris Blockage on Emergency Recirculation during Design Basis Accidents at Pressurized-Water Reactors (PWR) -

Second Response (TAC NOS. MC4717, MC4718)"

By the reference letter, TVA provided the evaluation of SQN for sump debris blockage and identified the need for modifications to the existing sumps to meet the subject GL.

The reference letter stated that modifications are planned for the Unit 1 refueling outage in the fall 2007 and the Unit 2 refueling outage in the fall 2006.

TVA is continuing to pursue this modification schedule to satisfy the GL completion date (December 31, 2007).

TVA recently evaluated outage resource sharing availability with TVA's Browns Ferry Nuclear Plant site that resulted in a change to the start date for SQN's Unit 1 Cycle 14 refueling outage.

The previous start date of late March 2006 has been changed to after April 1, 2006.

The timing of this April 2006 outage start fiwY Pr-tMd o-recycled pnro~

-I a U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission Page 2 September 30, 2005 date does not allow for completion of the analysis, manufacturing, and installation of new sump strainers during the first refueling outage starting after April 1, 2006, as stated in the subject GL.

Accordingly, and as discussed with NRC staff, TVA is continuing to stay with the original modification schedule describe in TVA's reference letter.

If you have any questions concerning this matter, please contact Jim Smith at (423) 843-6672.

I declare under penalty of perjury that the foregoing is true and correct.

Executed on the 30th day of September 2005.
