Letter Duke Energy to NRC Document Control Desk December 10, 2003 Response to Request for Additional Information By letter dated February 27, 2003 Duke Energy submitted an application to amend the licenses of McGuire and Catawba to allow the use of four mixed oxide fuel lead assemblies.

Duke Energy provided the NRC staff additional information by a letter dated December 10, 2003 in support of this amendment application.

The letter transmitted information in the form of tables which were previously requested by the NRC staff.

The free volume for MOX fuel rods was incorrectly reported in Table I page 3 of that transmittal.

Attachment I to this letter contains a corrected value for the free volume as well as a summary of the constituents used to arrive at the value.

The previously reported value was the free volume for a burnable poison rod incorrectly transcribed as a fuel rod free volume.
