- . Beaver Valley Power Station, Unit No. 1 Reply to Notice of Violation Inspection 88-03 Letter dated March 4, 1988 VIOLATION (Severity Level IV; Supplement IV)

Description of Violation (88-03-02)

Technical Specification 6.11 states that "procedures for personnel radiation protection shall be prepared consistent with the requirements of 10 CFR Part 20 and shall be approved, maintained and adhered to for all operations involving personnel radiation exposur Procedure RP 8.1, Radiological Work Permit, Section 3.2.1.8, requires in part, that individuals sign the applicable RWP, "... signifying understanding and acceptance of the conditions and controls of the RWP."

l Contrary to the above, on January 26, 1988, A Radiological Controls technician entered the Unit 1 containment while not dressed in accordance with the minimum anti-contamination clothing requirements of the applicable RW Specifically, the technician entered containment without a cloth hood, coveralls, or a second pair of

, shoecovers and glove The ccatrolling RWP required I

anti-contamination clothing to include, as a minimum, hood, coveralls, and two pairs each of shoecovers and rubber glove Corrective Action Taken The Radiation Technician was disciplined for his failure to follow l the requirements of the Radiological Work Permit.

! inspection exit was circulated for Radiological Control personnel l review The memorandum noted that Radiological Control personnel l will be held accountable for their actions and ara to set an example for other radiation workers.

A copy of the entire Inspection Report is being circulated for review by Radiological Control personne Their review of the report and suppcrt to correct identified weaknesses should avoid further violations of this nature.
