REED COLLEGE- NUCLEAR REGULATORYCOMMISSION SECURITY INSPECTION REPORT NO. 05000288/2022201

Dear Mr. Newhouse:

From May 2 - 4, 2022, the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) staff conducted a security inspection at the Reed College research reactor. The inspection results were discussed on May 4, 2022, with you and members of your staff. The enclosed report documents the inspection results.

The inspection examined activities conducted under your license as they relate to security, compliance with the Commission rules and regulations, and with the conditions of your license.

The inspector reviewed selected procedures and records, observed activities, and interviewed personnel.

Based on the results of this inspection, the NRC has determined that one Severity Level IV violation of NRC requirements occurred. However, since Reed College has satisfied all of the criteria in Paragraph 2.3.2.b. of the NRC Enforcement Policy, the violation is being treated as a non-cited violation (NCV). The NCV is described in the subject inspection report. If you contest the violation or significance of the NCV, you should provide a response within 30 days of the date of this inspection report, with the basis for your denial, to the Nuclear Regulatory Commission, ATTN: Document Control Desk, Washington DC 20555-0001, with copies to the Director, Office of Enforcement, United States Nuclear Regulatory Commission, Washington, DC 20555-0001.

In accordance with Title 10 of the Code of Federal Regulations (10 CFR) 2.390, Public inspections, exemptions, requests for withholding, a copy of this letter will be available electronically for public inspection in the NRC Public Document Room or from the NRC's document system (Agencywide Documents Access and Management System (ADAMS)).

ADAMS is accessible from the NRC Website at http://www.nrc.gov/reading-rm/adams.html (the Public Electronic Reading Room). However, because of the security-related information contained in the enclosure, and in accordance with 10 CFR 2.390(d), a copy of the enclosure will not be available for public inspection.
