Retakes of written requalification examinations were administered to one (1) senior reactor operator

'(SRO)

and one ( 1) reactor operator (RO).

These examinations consisted of two (2) static (frozen) simulator examinations and an open reference classroom examination.

The examinations were graded concurren-tly and independently by the NRC and by the facility training staff.

Both operators passed the examinations as graded by the NRC.

Facility grading directly paralleled the NRC grading.

2.0 SIMULATOR FIDELITY Simulator fidelity was excellent.

The simulator had no adverse impact on the conduct of the static simulator portion of the examinations.

3.0 WRITTEN EXAMINATION The proposed written examination was objective in nature.

The examination was written to test an SRO level of knowledge. 'he SRO.level examination was given to both candidates, since all licensed operators at the Ginna station are trained to. the knowledge level of an SRO.

The exam consisted of 75% multiple choice and 25% short answer questions.

Some modification to the proposed examination was required to ensure it conformed to NUREG-1021, Operator Licensing Examiner Standards, and NUREG/BR-0122, Examiner's Handbook for Developing Operator Licensing Written Examinations.

4.0 SUMMARY OF COMMENTS MADE AT EXIT MEETING ON MARCH 14 1991 The examiner gave preliminary results of the examinations to the facility staff.

These results were identical to the facility's preliminary results.

The examiner thanked the facil.ity staff for the cooperation received.

The training staff expressed appreciation to the examiner for the assistance given in revising the exam to a more objective format.

The training staff also stated an intention to thoroughly revise the requali-fication written examination bank to meet the requirements of NUREG-1021.

They stated that this process is currently being done by a task force of licensed individuals.

The examiner agreed that some work was needed on the examination bank to meet the NRC goal of "objective" requalification examinations.
