Inspection No. 50-244/86-20 This refers to your letter dated January 12, 1987, in response to our letter dated December 15, 1986.
Thank you for informing us of the corrective and preventive actions documented i.n your letter.
These actions will be examined during a future inspection of your licensed program.
In your letter you state that, in accordance with the guidance presented in NOREG/BR-0006, Revision 2, dated March 1, 1985, you are not required to report to the NRC certain transactions involving less than 1 gram of. special nuclear material (SNM).
We agree.
However,
CFR 70.51(d) requires each licensee who is authorized to possess SNM in a. quantity in excess of 350 grams of uranium-235 to conduct a physical, inventory of all SNM in its possession at least every 12 months.
There is no de minimus quantity of SNM that is exempt from the physical inventory requirement, if the total quantity of SNM authorized for possession exceeds'.
350 grams.
