On June 28,1989, the NRC issued Generic Letter (GL) 89-10, " Safety-Related Motor-Operated Valve (MOV) Testing and Surveillance" under the authority of 10CFR50.54(f).
Southern Nuclear responded to the GL in a letter dated December 28,1989 and developed a comprehensive program for testing, inspection, and maintenance of all safety-related MOVs in piping systems to provide the necessary assurance that these valves will perform satisfactorily. This program included 356 MOVs installed at Farley Nuclear Plant and involved expenditures of approximately 24 million dollars.
The purpose of this letter is to notify the NRC that Southern Nuclear has completed the design-basis reviews, analyses, verifications, tests, and inspections required to comply with the commitments made in the December 28,1989 letter. These commitments were made in response to recommendations (a) through (h) of GL 89-10. This notification letter is intended to meet reporting requirement (m) of GL 89-10.
