VIRGIL C. SUMMER NUCLEAR STATION (VCSNS), UNIT 1 DOCKET NO. 50-395 OPERATING LICENSE NO. NPF-12 SPECIAL REPORT (SPR) 2017-003 South Carolina Electric & Gas Company (SCE&G) is submitting this Special Report pursuant to the requirements of Technical Specifications 6.9.2 and as required by Station Administrative Procedure (SAP) 131 A, "Fire Protection Program Surveillances and Compensatory Measures," .1, Step 6.1.11, Action 4. This report addresses an electrical fire barrier assembly not being restored to operability within seven days after declaration of inoperability.

On May 4, 2017, the Kaowool for Trace 360 was damaged during scaffolding erection/removal.

The condition was entered into the station's corrective action program, and the electrical fire barrier assembly was declared inoperable at 1030 hours0.0119 days <br />0.286 hours <br />0.0017 weeks <br />3.91915e-4 months <br />. Compensatory actions, consisting of verifying operable smoke detectors and initiating a roving fire watch, were established.

The Kaowool was replaced on the electrical fire assembly in compliance with Civil Maintenance Procedure (CMP) 100.005, "Installation and Repair of Electrical Fire Barriers," and satisfactory testing was completed. The electrical fire barrier assembly was declared operable on May 11, 2017, at 1130 hours0.0131 days <br />0.314 hours <br />0.00187 weeks <br />4.29965e-4 months <br />.
