SUBJECT: NRC INDEPENDENT SPENT FUEL STORAGE INSTALLATION INSPECTION REPORT NOS. 05000272/2010009, 05000311/2010009, AND

07200048/2010001, SALEM NUCLEAR GENERATING STATION, PSEG

NUCLEAR LLC, HANCOCKS BRIDGE, NEW JERSEY

Dear Mr. Joyce:

On September 20, 2010, the NRC completed an inspection of the Salem Nuclear Generating

Station Independent Spent Fuel Storage Installation (ISFSI) pre-operational activities and initial

loading of spent fuel into the ISFSI facility. The ins

pection period began August 9, 2010. The findings were discussed with Lou Menoscal, Nuclear Project Manager, and other members of

your staff during a preliminary exit meeting on September 17, 2010. At the preliminary exit

meeting, Mr. Menoscal was informed the inspection would remain open until the initial

multipurpose canister (MPC) was successfully stored at the ISFSI pad. This was accomplished

on September 20, 2010. A final exit meeting was conducted, via telephone, on

September 20, 2010, with Tom Wallender, ISFSI Project Manager. The enclosed report

presents the results of this inspection.

The inspection examined activities associated with the preparation, movement and placement of

spent fuel from the spent fuel pool into the ISFSI facility. The inspectors reviewed selected procedures and records, observed activities, and interviewed personnel.

Based on the results of this inspection, no findings were identified.

In accordance with 10 CFR Part 2.390 of the NRC's "Rules of Practice," a copy of this letter, its
