WITHDRAWAL OF LICENSE AMENDMENT REQUEST REGARDING INTERIM AMENDMENT REQUEST PROCESS FOR VOGTLE ELECTRIC GENERATING PLANT UNITS 3 AND 4 (CAC NO. RP9532)

Dear Mr. Whitley:

By letter dated July 29, 2016 (Agencywide Documents access and Management system (ADAMS) Accession No. ML16211A436), Southern Nuclear Operating Company (SNC) submitted a license amendment request (LAR) regarding the interim amendment request process for Vogtle Electric Generating Plant Units 3 and 4. SNC provided additional information on January 5, 2017 (ADAMS Accession No. ML17005A514). In the LAR SNC proposed to use the interim amendment process to obtain expedited approval of requested changes during construction when, due to emergent conditions, there is insufficient time to conduct a detailed, technical, safety analysis to support a license amendment request or the preliminary amendment request process approved by the Commission. Subsequently, by letter dated January 30, 2017, SNC withdrew the amendment request. The U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission has filed the enclosed Notice of Withdrawal of Application for Amendment to Facility Combined License with the Office of the Federal Register for publication.
