From:Gunderson, LynneTo:Gibson, LaurenCc:Eckholt, Gene F.; Rohrer, Rick J.; Fields, John S.Subject:[External_Sender] Prairie Island Nuclear Generating Plant Flood Hazard Reevaluation Report - Response toRequested Information (CAC Nos. MF7710 and MF7711)Date:Thursday, September 29, 2016 5:04:58 PMMs. Gibson,

On August 18, 2016, a joint audit call was held between the NRC and Northern States Power Company, a Minnesota corporation (NSPM), d/b/a Xcel Energy, related to the Prairie Island Nuclear Generating Plant's (PINGP) Flood Hazard Reevaluation Report (FHRR)

(dated May 12, 2016; ADAMS Accession No. ML16133A030). This audit call was held in accordance with the audit plan (ADAMS Accession No. ML16152A126). As a result of the call, the NRC requested on August 30, 2016, that information be submitted on the docket by October 28, 2016. The information request is repeated below along with a response to the request.

Requested Information for Prairie Island: ~ Local Intense Precipitation - General request related to HEC-RAS modeling The schematic diagram (Figure 5.3.2-2 in LIP calculation package) shows a general overview of the HEC-RAS modeling structure. However, detailed information about where the river reaches receive their water from and what are the corresponding drainage basins is missing. Review of the model shows that there is a total of 32 subbasins, 10 river reaches, and 18 storage areas, which should have more reach boundary conditions (including the missing data for subbasin #205), storage area boundary conditions, and connections between these features. However, none of these conditions were specified or discussed in the FHRR or the LIP calculation package. Please provide revised figure(s) to include all critical door opening locations, river reaches, and cross section associated with each of the critical door locations using appropriate annotations and legends. Please send as a .jpeg or .tiff attachment to an e-mail. The e-mail and attachment will be docketed.

Northern States Power - Minnesota (NSPM) Response:

Three (3) figures are attached, which provide the location of the critical door opening locations, river reaches, and cross section associated with each of the critical door locations including appropriate annotations and legends. The figures for this response reflect corrections performed in Calculation 180461.51.1005, Revision 1, which is discussed in a separate submittal supplementing the PINGP FHRR. The calculation revision is provided to the NRC Staff for audit on DVD.
