• Protection Plan (EPP). required. under. Section 5. 4. 1 of Appendix B, Environmental

The objective of the EPP is. to verify that the North Anna 'Power Station is operated in an environmentally acceptable manner, consistent with NRC and other federal, s~ate and local requirements as well* as to keep the NRC informed of any environmental effects of facility construction or operation.

During 2021, there were no significant adverse environmental impacts that occurred as a result of the operation of North Anna Power Station, Units 1 and 2. Aquatic issues are addressed in the licensee's VPDES permit (number VA 0052451) issued by the Virginia State Water Control Board. The VPDES permitting program is administered by the Department of. Environmental Quality and the NRC relies on: this agency for regulation of matters involving water quality and aquatic biota.

Listed bel'ow are the summaries. and analyses required by Subsection 4.2 of the EPP.

PLANT DESIGN AND OPERATION (SECTION 3.1)

EROSION CONTROL INSPECTION SITE (SECTION 4.2.2.1)

Performance* of Periodic Test Procedure; 1-PT-9.3, __ Erosion Control Inspection-~tation Si~e, and O-PT-75.12: Visual Inspection of the Service Water Reservoir Dike Crest and Toe, were completed by the Civil/Design.Engineering Department.* Eight (8) areas of concern

• that. _needed corrective. action were identified during_. the performance of 1-PT-9.3. There was one (1) area of concern identified_ during.the performance of 0-PT-75.12.

The areas identified in 1-PT-9.3 were as follows:

• issues were due to animal burrows found* at the east side of the Discharge Canal, Fabric tank~ and ISFSI area.

Page 2 of 4 Four (4) of the issues were due to minor erosion_ :Lssues - found at fhe following locations: *Erosion gullies _observed at the NANIC, erosion gullies on both sides of the warehouse road near Ware_house

1. 7, erosion gully on the service water reservoir road; and,erosion found on Dike 5 (bridge to the Training Building),.* One (1) issue was due to excessive vegetation observed on Dike 5.

The qne 1 issue identified during the *performance of 0-PT-75.12 was due to small trees found on the slopes of the Service Water Reservoir.

All issues identified were entered i-nto the station 1 s corrective action system and corrective action assignments and work orders have been assigned. There were no issues observed that adversely impacted site erosion control measures, storm water. run-off, or station operation.

Construction activities for the mini-switchyard, east of the main switchyard began in December, 2019 and was completed in November, 2020. All work was performed in accordance with the VAR-10 construction permit. Storm water controls were installed and maintained in accordance with the accompanying storm water pollution prevention plan (SWPPP). A review* of the SWPPP inspections that were performed during the._ construction project did not reveal any instances of non-compliance

• to the SWPPP, or iesues that were not readily resblved.

-The VAR-10 permit for the mini-switchyard is still active a~d will remain so until a notification of termination (NoT) is submitted to the VA DEQ. A NoT for this permit is scheduled to be submitted to the VA DEQ by the*end of April, 2022. -

EROSION AND SEDIMENT CONTROL PROGRAM CORRIDOR RIGHTS-OF-WAY SECTION 4.2.2.2) -

During 2021, all transmissi~n line rights-of-way were patrolled to coordinate brush and tree work needed for maintenance of the lines. This work involved the following:

• North Anna-to-Gordonsville_ (Louisa-South Anna) corridor: A.

contract crew performed all brush and tree work for reliability as needed. All herbicide work was completed by the*

end of August. N*o signifi,cant _erosion* was_ observed.

• North Anna-to-Morrisviile corridor: The patrol

• revealed - that there was no significant tree or brush - work needed, and no significant erosion was.observ~d.

• North Anna to Ladysmith corridor: A - contract_ crew performed

all brush and t~ee work for reliability as needed. All herbicide work was completed by the end of August. No sign1ficant erosion was observed.

• North Anna to Midlothian corridor:

• A contract crew performed all brush and tree work. for reliability as needed. All herbicide work

• was completed 'by mid-July. Maintenance tree work was completed by. the

• end of December. No significant erosion was observed.

During all of the above-noted patrols *and follow-up observations, no abnormal. erosion conditions were observed on any of

• the

• above corridors associated with transmission line construction, modification, maintenance activities or the use of herbicides during 2021.

NON-COMPLIANCE (SECTION 5.4.1)

There were no non-compliances with the Environmental Protection Plan during 2021.

NON-ROUTINE REPORTS (SECTION 5.4.2)

There-was one (1) five-day n9tification letter submitted to the VA DEQ, on 11/19/20*21, and one (1) follow-up clean-up report, submitted to the VA DEQ oh 12/14/2021, for the following event:

On 11/10/2021,' during the replacement of a pad transformer in being replaced had developed a slow bushing leak which caused front of Warehouse #8, it was discovered that the transformer approx. 89 gallons of non-PCB mineral oil to leak to the ground over time.

• A.remediation contractor -(HEPACO) was called in to clean up the spill and perform remediation excavation of the soil. Clean-up

_activities began 11/11/2021 and were _completed on 11/19/2021..
