FIRE IN OFFICE BUILDING At 6:48 p.m. (EDT), April 17, 1989, a fire occurred in a switchgear room in an office building within the plant's protected area. The building, which is not attached to the Reactor or Turbine Buildings, houses engineering and support personnel.
The local fire department was notified at 6:55 p.m. and an unusual event was declared in eccordance with the licensee's emergency classification plan. The fire was extinguished at 7:25 p.m., and the Unusual Event terminated at 7:58 p.m. There were no injuries.
The local fire marshall is investigating the incident and the extent of damage. Region III (Chicago) is monitoring the licensee's course of action.
The State of Michigan will be notified.
