O SUPPLEMENTAL FILE COPY Roger 8. Boyd, Assistant Director for Reactor Frajects 1HRU D. R. Muller, Chief, Reactor Project Branch #1 MEETING WITH PUBLIC SERVICE COMPANY OF NEW RAMFSHIRI RECARDING THE NEWINGTON SITE Hessrs. Eliot Friest and William T. Nickerson representatives of Public Service of New Hampshire met with D. R. Muller and C. J. Hale October 2, 1968, to discuss their progress since the August meeting.

The Public Service Company has contracted several of the long lead-time componente and have initiated a study of the Newington site.

(See attachment for brief site description.)

Aside from the fact that the Newington site is small and the population density is large the applicant feels their greatent problem with the site is the close proximity of the SAC Fease Air Force Base. We '

(y were asked whether DRL has criteria with respect to teattors near j

airports. We advised them that such criteria have not been finalia.4 -

' but that a similar problem had been encountered at Three Mile taland.

' Fublic Service has retained Fickard and Lowe to study the probloc in more detail.

Public Service is looking for a more suitable site with little success.

It appears, although not stated, that they are considering abandoning the Newington site in view of the close proximity of the SV sase.

Mr. Friest stated if Public Service decidea to abandce the Newington site we would be advised before any such statenest was made public.
