. WOV 2 9 19a MEMORANDUM FOR: Fire Protection Section Personnel FROM: Victor Benaroya, Chief Chemical Engineering Branch, DE

SUBJECT:

REVISED POLI'CY FOR FIRE PROTECTION SITE AUDITS To improve comanications between NRR and the Regions, the Regions have -

asked our assistance for the pre-operational inspection of the facility.

To use our manpower in an effective way, we agreed to the following policy:

When the plant is ready for the fire protection audit (more than 90% of all cables pLiled), let me know, and I will contact the Region. If the '

Region requests our assistance for the fire protection inspection. we will delay our site visit unitl the Region is ready. We will participate in the inspection as a member of the inspection team, reporting the findings to the Region. This is the same as we do now in the Appendix R reviews of operating plants. '

If the Region is not interested in our assistance for this inspection, we will go ahead with our nonr.al fire protection site visit.

In any case, the role of our consultant, if there is one, woula not change.
