P.O. Box 886 Washington, DC 20044

Dear Mr. Longo:

Reference is made to Mr. Peter Garcia's letter of March 4,1985 requesting Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) investigative estimates for FY 86 and FY 87, and to your related telephonic discussion on March 25, 1985 with Mr. Glen Robinson of my staff.

Enclosure 1 reflects our best estimate for personnel security investigations needed during FY 86 and FY 87 in support of the NRC's ongoing personnel security program. Enclosure 2 contains our estimates for investigations .

required if the NRC Material Access Authorization Program (MAAP) under 10 CFR Part 11.is implemented. It is currently projected that MAAP will be implemented in the Fall of 1985, with the first segment of investigative requests to be forwarded to OPM during the first quarter of FY 86. Enclosure 2 also lists the principal facilities / activities affect'ed by MAAP. We will keep you advised on the status of MAAP as specific numbers and dates become fixed.

Sincerely, Original Simed By James J. Dunleavy 1
