l Mr. Peter T. McGarry, Chief Florida / Mississippi Unit Water Management Division

[ U.S. Environmental Protection Agency i 345 Courtland Street '

Atlanta, GA 30365 Re: Crystal River Plant NPDES Permit FL0000159 (A0 83-17)

Dear Mr. McGarry:

1 In accordance with noncompliance notification requirements of the Crystal River NPDES permit, Florida Power Corporation submits the following infor-mation.

On July 26, 1984, Crystal River Unit 3 was unable to obtain a sample of discharge 006 (Nuclear Services Seawater System) for pH. Investigation revealed that the discharge pipe which includes a sample line was valved off and the flow rerouted through a second discharge pipe which does not have a sample line. To prevent future incidents, the pipe without sampling facilities has been administratively isolated. We are currently evaluating the options of ct)ntinued isolation of this discharge pipe or the addition .

of a sampling line which would permit discharge of 006 through either pipe. I l
