The effluent discharge. data for June 1997 indicated a Biological Oxygen Demand for 5 days (BOD ) value of 12.0 mg/1.

The permit limit for B00 is 5.0 mg/1.

3 The background B00 was measured in the ditch prior to discharge. 3 The result of 3

this analysis was 9.4 mg/1.

A BOD sample collected from the tank being 3

discharged had a BOD value of 2.1 mg/1, well below the permit maximum, 3

i Therefore, it~is likely that the high BOD value was the result of mixing with 3

water in the ditch system and not characteristic of the effluent discharged from the Mariculture Center.
