Noncompliance Notification for NPDES Permit No. 2IB00011; Davis-Besse Nuclear Power Station bear Mr. Dunlavy:

In accordance with the requirements of Part A.2 of NPDES Permit No. 2IB000ll for the Davis-Besse Nuclear Power Station, we wish to notify you of a recent noncompliance condition.

The Free Available Chlorine daily maximum 1Lnit (0.5 mg/1) was exceeded at '

Outfall 001 (collection box) on March 25,~1985. The Free Available Chlorine was 3.0 mg/l at this outfall, which is above the 0.5 mg/l daily limit.

Date Outfall Parameter Analysis March 25, 1985 001 Free Available 3.0 mg/l Chlorine The cause of the high level of free chlorine at this sampling location was directly attributed to the inproper operation of a newly installed chlorina-tion valve. Proper throttling of this valve will take place to prevent this situation from occurring in the future.

A resampling at 3:00PM on'the same day indicated that the free available chlorine concentration had diminished below detectable limits.

If you have any questions regardin'g this notice, please contact Patrick McCloskey, Environmental Monitoring at (419) 249-5001 Ext. 711.

Sincerely yours, h 4' S. M. Quennoj' Plant Manager PDR
