Noncompliance notification for NPDES Permit No. 2IB000ll, for the Davis-Besse Nuclear Power Station

Dear Mr. Dunlavy:

In accordance with the requirements of Part A.2 of NPDES Permit No. 2IB00011 for the Davis-Besse Nuclear Power Station, we wish to notify you of a recent noncompliance condition.

The Total Suspended Solids daily =aximum limit was exceeded at Outfall No. 002 (Area Runoff) on May 14, 1984. The daily maximum limit is 50 mg/l for Total Suspended Solids. The daily reading for Total Suspended Solids at Outfall 002 was 36.8 mg/l on May 14, 1984.

Date Outfall Parameter Analvsis May 14, 1984 002 Total Suspended 86.8 mg/l Solidc Winds coming from the west and southwest continue to kick up solids from the pond bottom near Outfall 002. Outfall 002 is located at the east side of the pond and is therefore, particularly sensitive to persistent winds blowing from the west. Heavy rainfall on Sunday, May 13, 1984 may have contributed to run-off into the pond.

It was noted daring the water aamp'.ir.g on Monday, May 14, 1984 thar a large population of carp had infiltrated this pond for spawning. These carp were active in disturbing the pond bottom near Outfall 002 while attempting to spawn.
