Mr. Bruce Dunlavy
Dear Mr. Dunlavy:
In our letter of December 13, 1985, we reported to your office a condition whereby the daily concentration limitation for total suspended solids at Outfall 601 (Sewage Treatment Pond) was exceeded on December 9, 10, 11, 12, 1985. These high concentrations of suspended solids were attributed to an algae die-off within the pond.
Due to a continuation of this condition, the 30-day concentration limita-tion for Outfall 601 (Sewage Treatment Pond) was also exceeded fcr the reporting month of December, 1985. A 30-day average concentration of 54 mg/l was determined for Outfall 601 (Sewage Treatment Pond) which is in excess of the 30 mg/l limitation established by Permit No. 2IB000ll*DD, for the Davis-Besse Nuclear Power Station.
Concentrations for suspended solids at Outfall 601 were in excess of the daily concentration linitation of 45 mg/l from December 9, 1985 through December 26, 1985.
Subsequent sampling through the end of December, 1985 showed concentrations to be stable below the 45 mg/l daily concentration limit.
If you have any further questions, please contact A. F. Gephart, Environ-mental Monitoring Supervisor at (419) 249-5000. Ext. 7149.
Yours truly, L. F. Storz Plant Manager Davis-Besse Nuclear Power Station LFS/AFG/PJM/ms/yml enc 1.
