1. EFFLUENT RELEASES A summary of the radioactive effluents released to the environment from North Ann'a Power Station Unit I during the period from initial criticality on April 5,1978 until June 30, 1978 is included as  ;

Tables lA,1C, 2A, and 2B. These tables have been corrected for the i 4

mathematical errors which were present in the summary tables originally f submitted for this period. I r

i The repcrted values for gaseous effluents are based on calculated r

minimum detectable activities (MDA's) within the effluent streams.

The reported values for liquid effluents are cased on measured [

values and MDA's as appropriate. i t

2. OFFSITE EXPOSURE ESTIMATES  ;

Estimates of offsite exposures resulting frem the release of radio-active effluents to unrestricted areas during the report period were

calculated folicwing Reg. Guides 1.21 and 1.109 through 1.113.

2.1 MAXIMUM INDIVIDUAL EXPOSURES l

Estimates of maximum individual offsite exposures were calculated using the critical receptor survey results to determine appropriate pathways and maximum individual usage values and parameters from Reg. Guide 1.109, Tables E-5 and E-15.

2.1.1 LIQUID EFFLUENT RELEASE EXPOSURES Estimates of maximum individual offsite exposures were calculated for potable water, aquatic foods (sport fish),

J shoreline recreation, and contaminated foods. Results of these calculations are included as Tables 3A, 3B and 3C.

Table 3C presents the total calculated liquid effluent exposures.

l No public drinking water supplies are drawn from North Anna Reservoir, however, the Hanover County Doswell Treatment Plant withdraws downstream from the reservoir. This is the point of exposure for this pathway. A transit time of 5 days, including distribution, was estimated for this calculation.

The pathway for contaminated foods is the access to the Waste Heat Treatment Facility by cattle located on pastures adjoining the facility.

Mixing ratios of 0.66 and 0.63 were used for the Waste Heat Treatment Facility and reservoir respectively (Ref. FSAR 11.2.7). No additional mixing ratio was assumed ,

for the reservoir to North Anna River.

All calculated total-body and organ exposures for the maximum incividual are well below the limits specified in 10 CFR 50 Appendix I.

2.1.2 GASEOUS EFFLUENT RELEASE EXPOSURES l

Estimates of maximum individual offsite exposures were calculated for external exposure from noble gases, inhalation of radioactivity in air, deposition l

of radioactivity on the ground plane and consumption of deposited radioactivity from leafy vegetation. l

. produce, cows milk, goats milk, and meat pathways. ,

Calculations were perfomed for total-body and organ exposures as appropriate. In addition, the gama and beta exposures to air at the site boundry was calculated.

Calculations were performed for each sector of the environment surrounding the site, using meteorological j data concurrent with the release period. All calculations are based on continuous releases for the period. No batch t releases were made during this time period. The results are included as Tables 4A-4H.4. Sumary tables for the ,

t total exposures from inhalation e.nd ingestion are included as Tables 4I.1-e!.4.

- L All calculated exposures for this release period are ,well below the limits specified in 10 CFR 50 Appendix I.

2.2 POPULATION EXPOSURES Annual population integrated total-body and thyroid exposures were calculated for the population within a 50 mile radius of the site. Tables E-4 and E-15 of Reg. Guide 1.109 were used to determine the usage values and parameters for population j exposures.

2.2.1 LIQUID EFFLUENT RELEASE POPULATION EXPOSURES Average individual exposures resulting frcm the release I

aquatic foods, shoreline recreation, and contaminated foods as described above under 2.1.1. These results, Tables SA-SC, were incorporated along with the production r

and/or usage values for these pathways, Table 50, and age distribution fractions to calculate the population expo'sures from liquid pathways presented in Table SE.

2.2.2 GASEOUS EFFLUENT RELEASE POPULATION EXp0SURES Estimate of the arerage adult, teen and child exposures were calculated for tot al-body and thyroid external exposure from noble gas s,bmersion and deposition on the ground plane and exposure f' om inhalation of radioactivity. Estimates were calculate'. for each sector and subregion within the 1

50 mile radius of the site.  :

Each subsector individual exposure was multiplied by the estimated age dependent population for the subregion (Ref. FSAR 2.1.3), Table 6A, to yield the population ,

t exposures for each subregion and pathway. These results are included as Tables 68-60.2.

Estimates of the average adult, teen, and child total-body

, and thyroid exposures for the 50 mile region were calculated _

for the produce, milk and meat pathways. These estimates  !

were incorporated with creo data for the region and age '

dependent population estimates to estimate the MAN-REM and  !

! MAN-THYROID-REM from the terrestrial food pathways. These  ;

results are included as Table 6E.
