i This is to confirm our earlier telephone report of an unusual discharge at North Anna
- i Power Station.
r On October 5,1998, station personnel were conducting a routine test of the valves associated with the bearing cooling system. Lake water was pumped through the system f
to check the valves. One valve did not close properly, resulting in lake water being j
pumped to the bearing cooling tower, Starting at 12:19 p.m., the cooling tower j
overflowed for approximately two minutes. Several thousand gallons of water entered the j
Lake through an unauthorized discharge point.
Station personnel collected samples of the discharge. The results are shown in the following table.

There is no evidence of any environmental harm as the result of this discharge. Due to the jO quality and small quantity of the release, no detrimental environmental impact is expected.
