Re: Draft Oconee EA for Your Review

Jennifer, Thank you for the opportunity to review the draft Environmental Assessment for Duke Oconee which was included as an attachment to your email dated 4-10-13. The South Carolina Department of Health and Environmental Control (DHEC) has reviewed the draft Environmental Assessment and does not have any comments.

If you have any further questions, please let me know.

Hello - as discussed in our phone conversation earlier this afternoon, I am forwarding you the draft Environmental Assessment (EA) for the exemption request for the Independent Spent Fuel Storage Installation (ISFSI) Oconee Nuclear Station.

As part of its review of the exemption request, the NRC staff has prepared the attached draft EA and draft Finding of No Significant Impact (FONSI), in accordance with the National Environmental Policy Act of 1969 (NEPA), and NRCs NEPA implementing regulations in 10 CFR Part 51. We conclude in the EA that the proposed action will not significantly affect the quality of the human environment.

We are requesting that you review our draft EA and comment on environmental issues prior to public issuance of the EA. Please let me know if you can support the exemption, or if you would like to provide comments, based on this email; or if you would prefer a more formal transmittal request.

You can reach me on the number previously provided, today, or at (301) 492-3371 on Thursday or Friday, or via email at bjennifer.davis@nrc.gov.
