Dear Chairperson Macfarlene,
On behalf of my family, I am writing this letter in support of the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission's review of the San Onofre Nuclear Generation Station's (SONGS) application to operate in Southern California.
Southern California Edison's ( SCE) San Onofre Nuclear Generating Station, near San Clemente, California, is the region's most reliable source of electricity. It is an important source of energy for myself and my family. The plant is environmentally friendly and is virtually free of pollutants caused by emissions. This is important in meeting the state of California's air quality standards to reduce greenhouse gases.
It also provides affordable energy for my home and my community. During these tough economic times anything that helps reduce monthly utility cost is important to us. I feel comfortable with the plant at sanOnofre because it is safe and historically has never been close down for safety violation. It also helps meeting the needs California's long - term goal for a cleaner air, and reliable emission - free power.
The San Onofre will be able to generate energy 24/7 which is important during the summer months. It is a secure fuel source that we can count on as being reliable for all of our increased energy needs. Since its beginning in 1968 and has been the most reliable energy source in the Southern California region.
Southern California Edison should be allowed to restart operate SONGS as proposed in their Return - to - Service Action Plan if the Nuclear Regulatory Commission Parentheses (NRC) determines they have sufficiently completed the compensatory and corrective actions requested in the Confirmatory Action Letter dated March 27, 2012.
I firmly believe that Southern California Edison number one priority is protecting the health and safety of the public as they have done over the last 40 years with SONGS. This project is the only long - term electrical solution for future energy needs and your support in getting the operation reestablished is important to everyone in my family and my community.
Thank you for your time and consideration in this matter. I hope to hear a response from you in the very near future.
Sincerely, David John Shawver Edison Customer and Resident of the City of Stanton Cc: Congressman Darrell Issa Senator Barbara Boxer Senator Diane Feinstein 2
