Thanks for your email related to the canisters at San Onofre. You will be able to find information on the NRC Licensing Process for Spent Fuel Storage in our website:
https://www.nrc.gov/waste/spent-fuel-storage/licensing.html. In summary, if a licensee submits a proposal for a new canister, NRC will review the application in accordance to the applicable regulations in Chapter 10 of the Code of Federal Regulations Parts 71 and 72, as applicable.
