Oceansiders 2.206 Petition Immediate Action Response Yousubmittedapetitionrequestingactionunder10C.F.R.2.206thatincludedarequestthattheNRCissuean immediateceaseanddesisttoSouthernCaliforniaEdison,et.altostopallspentfuelloadingactivitiesatSanOnofre NuclearGeneratingStation.
TheNRCstaffreviewedthepetitionsimmediateactionrequestandhasconcluded,inaccordancewithSectionII.B.1of ManagementDirective(MD)8.11(ML18176A147),thattherequestdoesnotwarrantimmediateaction.TheNRCstaff hasdeterminedthatthespentfuelloadingactivitiesatSONGSdonotconstituteanimmediatethreattopublichealth andsafety.TheNRChascontinuedtoperforminspectionandoversightofNRClicensedactivitiesatSONGSandtaken regulatoryactionsasnecessary,includingappropriateenforcementofNRCregulationsregardingthesafetyofspentfuel storage.
Consistentwiththe2.206process,theStaffisproceedingwithitsevaluationofwhetherthepetitionmeetstheMD8.11 acceptancecriteriaforreview.WewillcontactyouoncetheStaffhasmadethatinitialdetermination.Letmeknowif youhaveanyquestions.
