. Steam Generator Tube Laser Welded Sleeves Ladies and Gentlemen:

By letter dated January 10,1997, Southern Nuclear submitted a technical specification amendment request for laser welded sleeves in Farley Units I and 2. In recent conversations with the NRC Staff, the Staffindicated a table outlining inspection requirements for steam  !

generator tube repairs, including laser welded sleeves, was necessary. The table requires a j minimum inspection of 20% of the installed sleeves and provides guidance on expanding the scope of the inspection.

Revised technical specification pages reflecting the Staff s request are enclosed. All technical specification pages required for the laser welded sleeving amendment are provided including those not affected by the Staffs recent request. These technical specification pages assume the voltage-based alternate repair criteria is approved prior to the laser welded sleeve amendment.

In conjunction with this revision to the laser welded sleeve technical specification amendment, [

a review was made of the 10CFR50.92 Significant Hazards Evaluation submitted with the i original request. The original Significant Hazards Evaluation remains valid. k j For your information, in the past it has been Farley Nuclear Plant's practice to inspect 100% of the laser welded sleeves installed on both units.
