Re: Nine Mile Point Unit 2 Docket No.50-410 On June 21, 1978, Mr.R.W.McDaughy of your staff wa's informed by telephone that.Niagara Mohawk was evaluating a condition at Nine Mile Point Unit 2 construction site which may be a reportable deficiency under 10CFR50.55(e).

This condition concerned magnetic particle weld indications on.sleeves cadwelded to the containment liner knuckle plate.By letter dated July 21, 1978, you were informed that further information was unavailable due to a work stoppage and a report would be provided by September 30, 1978 describing our evaluation of this condition.

A three-pronged investigation into this problem is underway.Investigations are in progress on a mock-up portion of the containment liner,, sister sleeves, and production, items in the field.Since the work stoppage at Unit 2 was longer than originally anticipated, our report will not be available as previously scheduled.
