By letter dated May 29, 2013, Exelon Generation Company, LLC (Exelon), submitted its application to renew the operating licenses for Byron Station, Units 1 and 2, and Braidwood Station, Units 1 and 2. The staff reviewed the license renewal application in accordance with Title 10 of the Code of Federal Regulations (10 CFR)

The staff reviewed the license renewal application in accordance with Title 10 of the Code of Federal Regulations (10 CFR) Part 51, "Environmental Protection Regulations for Domestic Licensing and Related Regulatory Functions," and 10 CFR Part 54, "Requirements for Renewal of Operating Licenses for Nuclear Power Plants."  Region III also performed inspections, as described in a memorandum dated August 7, 2015, from Cynthia Pederson, Regional Administrator. The staff documented the results of its safety review in the safety evaluation report entitled "Safety Evaluation Report Related to the License Renewal of Byron Station, Units 1 and 2, and Braidwood Station, Units 1 and 2," issued July 2015. The staff also documented the results of its environmental review in a supplemental environmental impact statement published in July 2015 as NUREG-1437, Supplement 54, "Generic Environmental Impact Statement for License Renewal of Nuclear Plants Regarding Byron Station, Units 1 and 2."  In addition, the staff prepared a Record of Decision, which will be referenced in the Federal Register notice of issuance for Byron Station, Units 1 and 2, which concluded that the standards for issuance of renewed operating licenses, as described in  10 CFR 54.29, have been met and the requirements of Section 102 of the National Environmental Policy Act have been satisfied.

In its July 25, 2005, Staff Requirements Memorandum for COMSECY-05-0025, "Renewal of Full-Power Operating License for Arkansas Nuclear One, Unit 2," the Commission directed the

U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) staff to notify the Commission via memorandum 3 days before the issuance of a renewed license. Consistent with this direction, the staff is informing the Commission that it is ready to issue Renewed Facility Operating Licenses No. NPF-37 and No. NPF-66 for Byron Station, Units 1 and 2, respectively, on November 19, 2015.
