ADVISORY COMMITTEE ON REACTOR SAFEGUARDS REVIEW OF THE BYRON-BRAIDWOOD NUCLEAR STATIONS LICENSE RENEWAL APPLICATION - TRANSMITTAL OF FINAL SAFETY EVALUATION REPORT By letter dated May 29, 2013, Exelon Generation Company, LLC, (Exelon or the applicant),

submitted a license renewal application (LRA) for Byron Nuclear Station, Units 1 and 2, and Braidwood Nuclear Station, Units 1 and 2, in accordance with Title 10 of the Code of Federal Regulations (10 CFR) Part 54, Requirements for Renewal of Operating Licenses for Nuclear Power Plants. Exelon requested renewal of the stations operating licenses (operating licenses NPF-37, NPF-66, NPF-72, and NPF-77) for a period of 20 years beyond the current respective expirations at midnight, October 31, 2024 (Byron Unit 1), November 6, 2026 (Byron Unit 2),

October 17, 2026 (Braidwood Unit 1), and December 18, 2027 (Braidwood Unit 2). The Advisory Committee on Reactor Safeguards (ACRS) Subcommittee met on December 3, 2014, to review the LRA and the staffs Safety Evaluation Report With Open Items Related to the License Renewal of Byron Station, Units 1 and 2, and Braidwood Station, Units 1 and 2 (ADAMS Accession No. ML14296A176).

The license renewal staff and technical branches have completed their review of the applicants LRA and have issued the Safety Evaluation Report Related to License Renewal of Byron Station, Units 1 and 2, and Braidwood Station, Units 1 and 2 (ADAMS Accession No. ML15182A051). All open items have been satisfactorily closed. We request that the ACRS review this safety evaluation for the Byron-Braidwood LRA. The Byron-Braidwood LRA is currently scheduled for review by the ACRS full committee on September 10, 2015.

The required copies of the pertinent documents have been delivered to your staff.
