Justificationtouestion6:RG&EconductedanextensivereviewofmaintenanceandtestproceduresaspartofourresponsetoInspectionReport90-031datedFebruary8,1991.Proceduresthatarestillbeingreviewedareinquarantinependingreviewcompletion.Proceduresfor1Aand1BBatterySystemMaintenanceandRepairverifyoperabilityoftheredundantbatterysystemasaninitialcondition.However,atpresentthereisnospecificprohibitioninallmaintenanceprocedures.ItisRG&Espolicytoprohibitmaintenanceortestingonredundantdcdivisionsatthesametime.RG&Ewillinvestigatetheneedtoplacemorespecificprohibitioninallapplicableprocedurestoensuretheintegrityofthedcsystem.Justificationtouestion7a:Duringtheperformanceofplanttours,normallytwicepershift,thespecifiedbatteryparametersaremonitoredtoensurenormaloperation.AlsoinaccordancewithRegulatoryGuide1.129,"Maintenance,TestingandReplacementofLargeLeadStorageBatteriesforNuclearPowerPlants",monthlyinspectionsareperformedperIEEE-450,"LargeLeadStorageBatteriesforGeneratingStations".Allthespecifiedbatteryparametersareverifiedtobewithinacceptablelimits.Justificationtouestion7b.4:Plantproceduresarecurrentlybeingrevisedtoincludeacceptablelimitsfortheaverageelectrolytetemperature.Presentlytheaverageelectrolytetemperatureiscalculatedforthepurposeof-.calculatingthespecificgravity.Justificationtouestion7b.6:InaccordancewithIEEE-450,"LargeLeadStorageBatteriesforGeneratingStations",celltocellterminalconnectionresistanceisverifiedtobewithinacceptablelimitsduringtheyearlytest.However,monthlytheterminalsarevisuallyinspectedforanyevidenceofcorrosion.Theconnectorsatthedcbusarenotsubjectedtothesamecorrosiveelementsascellterminalconnectionsandthereforearenotvisuallyinspectedmonthly.
