NRC Transparency
==Dear Chairman Jaczko:==
The U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) has maintained that it is a
transparent agency
affording members of the public ample opportunity to participate in NRC
meetings held with
agency licensees so that the public may better understand the operations
of the agency.
However, recent scheduling activities by the NRC demonstrate that the
agency holds little
regard for the public's interest and availability to attend and
participate in scheduled NRC
public meetings.
For example: the NRC currently has the following public meetings
scheduled:
*October 3rd, at 9am central time - Entergy Operations - regulatory
conference - public
meeting
*October 3rd, at 1pm eastern time - North Anna Earthquake AIT -
Public Meeting
*October 3rd, at 1pm eastern time - Browns Ferry Nuclear Plant -
public meeting
As can be seen from the above, the NRC's scheduling process leaves much
to be desired and
seriously limits the public's ability to attend the agency's schedule
public meetings. Thus, the
public is FORCED to choose which NRC meeting to attend!
It is respectfully requested that the Commission ORDER its subordinate
Regional Offices to
reschedule the above meetings to allow members of the public a fair
opportunity to attend ALL
of the above scheduled public meetings. Moreover, please ensure that all
future NRC public
meetings are coordinated to permit members of the public to attend each
meeting.
Kind regards,
