Testsarebeingconducted atthreedifferent scalesincluding singleandmultivent tests.Thistestprogramisastudyofthefundamental phenomena ofchugging.

ThisprogramisnotapartoftheMarkIIownergroupsupporting program.MarkIIOwner'sGrouMeetinThetopicsdiscussed inthismeetingarelistedintheattachedmeetingagenda.Asummaryofdiscussion follows:1.Monticello SRV-MarkIIFluidStructure Interaction StudiesOr.H.TangofGeneralElectricdiscussed theresultsofstudiesatGEtodetermine theeffectofcontainment wallflexibility onthemeasuredSRVloadsintheMonticello tests.GEperformed calculations similartothoseperformed byLivermore.

Theirplanestraincalculations utilizedsimilarassumptions ofcontainment rigidityandloadsourcetothoseperformed byLivermore.

Undertheseconditions theyobservedthesametrendofreducingloadwithincreasing wallflexibility asobservedintheLivermore studies.However,theGEstudieswereextendedtoincludeaxisymmetric calculations, 3Dmodelingofatorussegmentandamultiplepulsesource.Resultsofthesestudiesshowthatwallflexibility amplifies theloads.Thisconclusion contradicts theLivermore 2Dstudy.Inadditiontheyconducted analytical-experimental comparisons usingtheirmodelandtheMonticello data.Theuseofthemorerealistic assumptions intheanalytical modelsubstantiated theMarkIIowner'sclaimthattheMonticello benchmark isvalid.TheMonticello FSIstudyisnowconsidered completebytheMarkIIowner'sgroup.Documentation willbeprovidedtotheNRCbytheendofMay1978, InourMarchmeetingwiththeMarkIIowner'sgroupwediscussed thedesirability offormulating aconservative chuggingimpulseloadtoresolve4TFSIquestions.
