Some of the radioisotopes have full radiological lives of at least hundreds of thousands of years. All "containment" should be real containment and last for the full radiological life of all radioisotopes to protect people, the genetic pool, animals, vegetation and the rest of the environment.

These flimsy casks come no where near doing that nor do the casks used in the rest of the world which are mostly ten inches to 19.75 inches thick. Had earlier generations done what you are about to do none of us would be alive. 2 billion years ago Earth was so radioactive it couldn't sustain any life. Only after that naturally occuring radiation died down was life able to exist. Single cell organisms which deveoloped into the broad array of life forms that now inhabit Earth.
