Subject:

FW: Docket ID NRC-2017-0211 Carol Gallagher, I would like to express my grave concern over the continued use 9fthin_-walled canisters for waste storage at the SONGS site at San Onofre, CA and ask why Edison is not being required to use safer storage measures such as those adopted in other countries? I am a resident in the north county area of San Diego, and I also work for a company tlfat designs safety instrumentation for industrial processes such as nuclear power operations, so this matter is of utmost interest and importance to me.

It is alarming that even slightly more conservative measures have not been adopted for spent fuel waste storage at the San Onofre site. The consequences of the decision to use thin-walled welded canisters in a seismically active and corrosive environment can be catastrophic to the ecosy~tem and lives of millions - especially to local residents such as me.

Why has the NRC not done more to protect citizens at this time?

Thank you for yo,ur attention, Leigh'DeFreece leighdefreece@gmail.com Resident, Encinitas CA Re: Docket ID NRC-2017-0211 y{:J. Pl< .5 J 9c/l/
