General Comment Reference Docket ID NRC-2017-0211:

I fail to understand how the CALIFORNIA COASTAL COMMISSION has more authority over the US Navy, when approving a permit to BURY NUCLEAR waste in THIN canisters, in a corrosive environment, less than 150 feet from the ocean beach! An ocean beach [by the way] that has destroyed the nearby Oceanside pier .... and that city had to rebuild [I recall] FIVE times in the last 100 years, due to massive storms! And the NRC somehow also is potentially approving this LONG TERM TOXIC NUCLEAR waste burial, on the beach? In thin wall canisters that have ALREADY DEMONSTRATED potentials for cracking in a short time, and in canisters with only a 25 year warranty?

At HOT canister temperatures?

WHO IS BEHIND THIS INSANE IDEA? Why is this waste not moved to HIGH MOUNTAIN GROUND on Camp Pendleton, less than a mile from the reactor? (Until some safer -longer term-storage option is developed?)

And ... WHO APPROVED this use of such thin wall canisters?

&format=xml&showorig=false 01/09/2018 I I Page 2 of2 I, along with MANY citizens of Orange county, and San Diego, demand a better solution to this plan. TH[S EDISON DISPOSAL PLAN [ as currently proposed]

CANNOT BE ALLOWED TO PROCEED! The concern for a Fukushima-like California beach for future generations, CANNOT BE ALLOWED! https://www.fdms.gov/fdms/getcontent?objectid=0900006482d908f7&format=xml&showorig=false 01/09/2018
