DESCRIPTION OF THE EVENT On April 27, 1989, between 12:45 and 2:45 p.m., during a chlorination on Unit 2, the 0.2 ppm average limit for free available oxidation (FAO) was exceeded at the condenser outlet.
Multigrab samples for that period averaged 0.24 ppm FAO. This exceedance was due to Plant start-up where only two of the four circulating water pumps were operating, therefore reducing dilution flow. Total residual oxidants (TRO) measured by a continuous monitor at the discharge canal terminus remained less than 0.01 ppm during this period. At the terminus, Unit 2 flow is combined with flow from four circulation water pumps'on Unit 1.
To date, when three or four circulating water pumps were in operation, average FAO has never exceeded 0.2 ppm. In the future, sodium hypochlorite injection will be throttled should outlet FAO begin to exceed 0.2 ppm.}} |
