==Dear Mr. Kaminskas:==
As a result of its continuous review of plant performance, the NRC has updated its assessment of the Perry Nuclear Power Plant. The NRC's evaluation consisted of a review of performance indicators and inspection results. This letter informs you of the NRC's assessment of your facility. This letter supplements, but does not supersede, the mid-cycle letter issued on September 4, 2012 (ML12248A312).
On June 25, 2012, the NRC forwarded a letter th at provided the final significance determination of one or more greater-than-green inspection findings in the Security Cornerstone. The findings, which occurred in the first quarter of 2012, were previously documented and  assessed in NRC Inspection Report 05000440/2012405. On September 14, 2012, the  NRC completed a supplemental inspection and documented the results in NRC Inspection Report 05000440/2012407. In accordance with the guidance in Inspection Manual Chapter (IMC) 0305, "Operating Reactor Assessment Program," the greater-than-green findings are considered in assessing plant performance for a total of four quarters, specifically through the end of the 4 th quarter of 2012.
The NRC determined the performance at the Perry Nuclear Power Plant will remain within the Degraded Cornerstone Column of the NRC
=s Reactor Oversight Process (ROP) Action Matrix because of one White Performance Indicator in Occupational Exposure Control Effectiveness and one White finding, originating in the second quarter of 2011, having a low-to-moderate safety significance (i.e., White) related to the Occupational Radiation Safety Cornerstone.
The NRC has not completed the supplemental inspection for these issues in accordance with Inspection Procedure (IP) 95002, "Supplemental Inspection for One Degraded Cornerstone or any Three White Inputs in a Strategic Performance Area."  The NRC will reassess plant performance after completion of this inspection and the results of the reassessment will be communicated separately.
In accordance with 10 CFR 2.390 of the NRC's "Rules of Practice," a copy of this letter will be available electronically for public inspection in the NRC Public Document Room or from the Publicly Available Records System (PARS) component of NRC's Agencywide Document Access and Management System (ADAMS). ADAMS is accessible from the NRC Web site at http://www.nrc.gov/reading rm/adams.html (the Public Electronic Reading Room).
Please contact Mr. Mike Kunowski at 630-829-9618 with any questions you have regarding this letter. Sincerely,

ASSESSMENT FOLLOW-UP LETTER FOR PERRY NUCLEAR POWER PLANT

Dear Mr. Kaminskas:

As a result of its continuous review of plant performance, the NRC has updated its assessment of the Perry Nuclear Power Plant. The NRCs evaluation consisted of a review of performance indicators and inspection results. This letter informs you of the NRCs assessment of your facility. This letter supplements, but does not supersede, the mid-cycle letter issued on September 4, 2012 (ML12248A312).

On June 25, 2012, the NRC forwarded a letter that provided the final significance determination of one or more greater-than-green inspection findings in the Security Cornerstone. The findings, which occurred in the first quarter of 2012, were previously documented and assessed in NRC Inspection Report 05000440/2012405. On September 14, 2012, the NRC completed a supplemental inspection and documented the results in NRC Inspection Report 05000440/2012407. In accordance with the guidance in Inspection Manual Chapter (IMC) 0305, Operating Reactor Assessment Program, the greater-than-green findings are considered in assessing plant performance for a total of four quarters, specifically through the end of the 4th quarter of 2012.

The NRC determined the performance at the Perry Nuclear Power Plant will remain within the Degraded Cornerstone Column of the NRC=s Reactor Oversight Process (ROP) Action Matrix because of one White Performance Indicator in Occupational Exposure Control Effectiveness and one White finding, originating in the second quarter of 2011, having a low-to-moderate safety significance (i.e., White) related to the Occupational Radiation Safety Cornerstone.

The NRC has not completed the supplemental inspection for these issues in accordance with Inspection Procedure (IP) 95002, Supplemental Inspection for One Degraded Cornerstone or any Three White Inputs in a Strategic Performance Area. The NRC will reassess plant performance after completion of this inspection and the results of the reassessment will be communicated separately.
